Internal Systems Artifact; Pig Dissection
This picture was taken during the pig dissection. We got put into groups of four and our task was to dissect the pig. We had to make an incision from the middle of the chest to the lower abdomen. We had to carefully cut out each organ. The organs we had to cut out are: heart, lungs, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and liver. I believe the pig dissection is the most interesting artifact from unit three: internal system. This is significant to me because it gave me a hand on learning opportunity. Doing a dissection online is a lot different from doing it in real life. We were able to use proper utensils and actually cut an organism and explore the inside of it. Although we dissected a pig it taught me that the species may be different, but they have similar organs as us that function the same way. My back plan is to go into the medical field. By dissecting the pig this gave me an opportunity to experience what my future career might be. This provided a learning opportunity not only for me, but also for everyone. This activity changed a lot of people’s mind of what to do in the future. This dissection allowed me to understand the unit better because it gave a visual picture of all three systems working together. We got to see the respiratory system, cardiovascular system and digestive system.
