Genetics Artifact; Pedigree & Test Cross
This artifact brings together two different things we learned in unit one. The pedigree is a drawn out family tree that shows the genetic diseases passed down from generation to a specific genotype from the parents. This example shows a real life example that uses both the pedigree and the test cross. A man who has a son affected by a genetic disorder decides to do a pedigree and a test cross and this allows to find out where the disease came from and who it will affect in the future offspring. This is significant to me because my grandfather had diabetes that he passed down to three of his children and not the rest. So by doing a pedigree it will better allow me to understand of genetically transmitted diseases. The pedigree and test cross is something we learned to school that is used in real life to actually figure out someone’s health condition. I find it every interesting how a simple pedigree and test cross can do so much. You will be able to figure out where the disease came from and whom it will affect in the future. You will be able to figure out the possibilities of your child of having a disease you have so you can take action before I happen.
